The Washington Football Team laid a large egg in its highly touted meeting with the Cowboys on Dec. 12. The 27-20 loss was not as close as it appeared on the scoreboard. Dallas led 24-0 at halftime and 27-8 in the third quarter before Washington rallied, only to see its hopes dashed by a turnover in the final minutes.
And while that game was just two weeks ago, it probably seems like another lifetime to Washington, which has seen a plethora of players and coaches sidelined by COVID-19. WFT’s scheduled Dec. 19 game against the Eagles was pushed back two days, so it will be gearing up for the Cowboys (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC) on short rest – at least for those who played in the 27-17 loss at Philadelphia.
That loss left Washington at 6-8 and mired in a pack of teams outside of the playoffs but still mathematically in contention. If Washington wants to have a realistic shot at earning a wildcard spot, it needs to beat the 10-4 Cowboys. Dallas is coming off a comfortable 21-6 win over the New York Giants, its second straight victory.
Dallas is favored by 10.5 to 11 points with the total set at 46.5 to 47.5 depending on the sportsbook. If the point spread or the total is not enticing, here are some prop bets worth considering.
Washington Football Team Vs. Dallas Cowboys Prop Bets
Washington To Win By 7-12 Points (+1600 at DraftKings)
As of Dec. 22, Washington doesn’t know who its quarterback will be against the Cowboys. Garrett Gilbert got the start against Philadelphia as neither starter Taylor Heinicke nor backup Kyle Allen had cleared Covid-19 protocols. It’s unclear if either or both will be available on Sunday. With the uncertainty on offense, Washington may need a big defensive effort to cash this ticket.
Neither Team To Reach 20 Points Including Overtime (+1050 at BetRivers)
While it’s easy to see Washington failing to score 20 points given the uncertainty around its quarterback, Dallas has only been held under 20 in losses to Denver and at Kansas City. But if you don’t think the Cowboys will need to exert themselves offensively in this one, there’s a nice payoff awaiting if this were to hit.
Dallas Cowboys Win With Shutout (+1300 at DraftKings)
Dallas’ defense has been a key factor in the team’s success this season and Washington isn’t sure who will be starting at quarterback. Defending on whom Washington eventually names its starter, this may be a very tantalizing option.
Washington Football Team Vs. Dallas Cowboys Preview And Pick
Washington hasn’t been eliminated from playoff contention, but the odds are stacked against it entering Sunday’s game at Dallas. It’s nearing the time when the focus will shift toward playing for pride and leaving solid individual performances behind on video for coaches to review during the offseason.
Dallas, meanwhile, has plenty to lose as it is in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the NFC and the first-round bye that comes with it. Even if the Packers don’t falter down the stretch, winning matters to the Cowboys to ensure as many postseason home games as possible. That will be more than enough motivation against a reeling Washington team.
This is a game where Dallas might have a chance to rest its starters in the second half. With that in mind, the under at 46.5-47.5 looks like a good choice in this one.
